Erectile Dysfunction (ED), also referred to as impotence is an abnormal physical or psychological state of a male characterized by the inability to engage in sexual intercourse because of failure to have or maintain an erection. Research at John Hopkins University discovered that over 18 million men in the United States above the age of twenty deal with difficulty sustaining an erection.

As men age, the blood vessels in the penis deteriorate and shrink, they accumulate micro-plaque just as they do elsewhere in the body. The sensitivity of the penis also declines as men age, making a gratifying orgasm is harder to achieve.  Men often report an increase in recovery time between acts of sexual stimulation as they age. The underlying cause of this “vasculogenic ED” is the breakdown of the blood flow to the penis during sexual performance.
